Framer vs Webflow vs Next.js: which should your startup website use?
By Bilal Haider, Founder, Theepa Studio · · 3 min read
Short answer
Choose Framer if you want a polished marketing site fast and designers or marketers will edit it. Choose Webflow if you publish a lot of structured content with several editors. Choose Next.js if the site must connect to your product, share code with your app or do things a visual builder can't. All three can rank well when built properly.
The short version
| Framer | Webflow | Next.js | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Best for | Fast, design-led marketing sites | Content-heavy marketing sites | Sites tied to a product |
| Who edits | Designers, marketers | Marketers, content teams | Developers, or marketers via a headless CMS |
| CMS | Built in, simple | Built in, structured | Headless (for example Sanity) |
| Custom logic | Limited | Limited | Anything |
| Hosting | Included | Included | Vercel or your own |
| Time to launch | Fastest | Fast | Slower |
| SEO potential | Strong for marketing pages | Strong | Strongest control |
When to choose Framer
Framer is a visual builder that feels like a design tool. It's the fastest way to get a polished, animated marketing site live, and non-developers can edit it comfortably.
Pick it when you're early, the site is mainly marketing pages and a blog, and speed matters more than deep customisation. See our Framer service.
When to choose Webflow
Webflow is also visual, but more structured. Its CMS handles many collections and fields well, and editor roles let a content team publish without touching the design.
Pick it when you publish often, need many landing pages, or are moving off WordPress. See our Webflow service.
When to choose Next.js
Next.js is a React framework: your site is code. That means more setup, but no ceiling. You can share components with your app, pull live data, add authentication and control every byte of the page.
Pick it when the website and the product overlap, or when you've outgrown a builder. Pair it with a headless CMS so marketers can still edit content. See our Next.js service.
What about SEO and AI search?
All three can rank. What matters more is the content and structure: clear headings, answers to the questions buyers ask, fast pages, structured data and clean URLs. With Next.js you control everything, including structured data and files like llms.txt; with the builders you'll add some of this through settings and custom code. Our guide to getting recommended by ChatGPT covers the content side.
Can you switch later?
Yes. Keep URLs clean and simple from day one, and a later move is mostly a matter of rebuilding pages and adding redirects. Our migration service handles exactly that.
